I’m sure we have all experienced times in our life where we feel insecure and essentially “not enough”. We are born with this innate way of thinking that we are second best – whether it comes from others or starts from within. It can be so easy to believe certain things about ourselves after hearing them over and over from other people. Now, some people are lucky to have avoided these negative vibes throughout their life, however, the ones who are left over, have a much harder time accepting themselves as they are. I’m not going to lie, all throughout my life I’ve looked for validation in everything I did. School, dance or even just hanging out with my friends, I longed to be accepted and just hoped that I wasn’t annoying anyone. Basic self-conscious stuff. Anyway, you’ll get to know that I find comfort in quotes, which was and still is an enormous help when I experience a tough time. I’m going to share with you 3 quotes for when you find yourself needing a little bit of validation.
Quote #1: “You can totally do this”
A little bit of motivation never hurt anyone! I don’t know about you, but when I hear (or read in this case) that I can do it (whatever it may be) I almost instantly feel better. It’s almost as if the negative or lazy voice inside my head just disappears and is replaced with a voice that is determined and excited! This quote means so much more than someone just motivating you, it means they believe in you. Having someone believe in you and cheer you on is one of the best feelings in the world.
Quote #2: “It’s okay if all you did today was breathe”
Do you ever have those days where you feel unproductive, sluggish or just downright sad? Yeah me too. It’s sooo common for us to have days where nothing goes right, so what do we do? We give up instead of trying to turn our mood around. Why? Because it’s easy to wallow in our melancholy state. Okay, I’m not going to sit here and guilt you for having a bad day because we ALL have those!! It’s completely acceptable to sit around in your pyjamas, eating potato chips while blasting John Mayer, as long as you don’t let that unhappiness take over your life. What I’m saying, is that if you had a really awful day with absolutely no sunshine or rainbows, but you’re still breathing, I am SO proud of you!
Quote #3: “You are enough”
This quote is probably the rawest form of validation out there. Being told by someone that you are enough means that you deserve everything this world has to offer and nobody can take that away from you. As humans, we tend to compare ourselves to others, which in the long run, can be super detrimental to our wellness. It doesn’t matter if you may not have the highest grades or the clearest skin because you are you and that is all that’s important! So next time someone on the street or even that little voice inside your head tries to tell you that you aren’t special or worthy, look in the mirror and tell yourself that it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks about you because you are worthy and important and beautiful and strong and enough!
