Have Faith in Yourself
Do you know how much power there is in having faith in yourself? The answer, TONS!! There is so much power in believing and trusting in your abilities. In today’s society, I feel like a lot of people suffer from self-doubt because we are constantly trying to get on the same level as everyone else. Comparison is one of the top thieves of happiness. We are so worried about competing with others that we’re wasting valuable energy that could be spent on doing what we have to do to become the best versions of ourselves. It’s natural to be jealous of other people’s progress and achievements, but they’re on a different journey than you are. We all have our own timeline and we need to learn that just because someone may be a bit farther ahead than you, it doesn’t mean that they weren’t in your position a little while ago. Don’t rush your progress. Everything will work out the way it’s supposed to.
Over the years, I’ve struggled with self-doubt for so many reasons. One being that I never ever had any faith in myself. I didn’t think I was good enough. I planned for the worst. And just like the thief of happiness I talked about a little while ago, I always compared myself to others.
WOW that was a lot of negativity, but the truth is, I wasn’t giving myself the credit I deserved. At the time, I didn’t recognize my worth and that was really detrimental to my overall health and wellness.
I must admit, I still do struggle with believing in myself but not as much as before. Part of the reason is because I am constantly reminded of why I should have faith in myself. Life is full of tiny little signs that we should pay attention to. Last week was midterms and I walked out of one feeling so terrible. My friends and I were talking about the exam and sharing our thoughts on the questions and that’s when I realized that barely any of my answers matched theirs. They kept reassuring me that I probably did fine, but I just couldn’t force myself to believe them. A couple days later when I saw that the marks were posted, I was so reluctant to look. When I finally did, I was shocked to see that I did really well! I was extremely happy. I called my mom to tell her the good news but she wasn’t shocked at all. She knew that I was going to do well because she knows my post-exam jitters and just jitters. But most of all, she wasn’t shocked because she has faith in me.
I’ve realized that there are always going to be people on our side. Those who cheer us on. Those who always have our backs. And those who never give up hope. Let me tell you, it is absolutely amazing to have people like that in our lives, but if we don’t do all of those things and more for ourselves, we will be lost. At the end of the day, we are the only ones who spend every second of the day with ourselves. With that being said, we need to love ourselves and be proud of ourselves.
If I haven’t said it enough…We need to have faith. We need to trust in our abilities. We need to believe that we can do it – whatever it may be. If you’re ever experiencing a time of doubt, I want you to remember to always have faith in yourself because you are strong and so amazing!
